World Spay Day—the last Tuesday of February—provides an opportunity for shelter and rescue organizations and low cost spay/neuter clinics like Sunshine Foundation to highlight our spay/neuter programs and increase community awareness.
In celebration this year of not only World Spay Day, but also Sunshine Foundation’s 10 Year Anniversary of Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinics on St Croix, we will be hosting a special Tuesday Feb 26th Clinic to spay & neuter up to 26 cats (only) free to help those with rescues, colony cats and/or financial need. But we need your help to underwrite costs for this event and low cost clinics throughout the year!
Sunshine Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2009 and dedicated to ending pet overpopulation on St Croix, US Virgin Islands
by providing basic, high-volume/low-cost spay and neuter services to people and pets in need.
In fact, Sunshine Foundation opened the doors at the Sugar Mill Veterinary Center headquarters on February 24, 2009 in celebration of Spay Day USA. Our programs have been developed in an effort to make spay and neuter services available and affordable to everyone in the St. Croix community. Today the Sunshine Foundation is especially focused on the often overlooked feral cat populations on St Croix, providing low cost solutions for those with financial need and supporting local volunteer dog and cat fosters.
Help Us Celebrate our 10 Years of combating Pet Overpopulation on St Croix:
10 Years of Sunshine Donation Drive
For 10 years, since its inception in February of 2009, Sunshine Foundation has spayed and neutered thousands of dogs and cats in our effort to end pet overpopulation on St Croix. We’ve also saved, fostered and adopted out hundreds of hard to place and supported special cases of animal neglect and abuse. Sunshine Foundation also provides low-cost veterinary care and spay/neuter services to local animal rescue and groups like REAL Cruzan Cats, Cruzan Cowgirls, and other foster homes. Currently, we house two dogs that are a part of an ongoing case of animal cruelty pending trial. The care for these dogs is supported 100% through a small emergency grant from ASPCA (funds ran out in May 2019) and private donations with no financial support from the Government of the VI nor the Judiciary system. We have pledged to keep them safe until the trial to support Detective Daniel Rodriguez’s mission to end animal abuse and neglect in the USVI.
Now we need YOUR help to continue our mission. Our funding is dangerously low. To continue our mission to be part of the solution, we need funding. We hope that you will help us towards our goal of raising $10,000 before our 10 year anniversary in February 2020.

Created by the Doris Day Animal League in 1995 as Spay Day USA, World Spay Day has been recognized by nearly 70 countries, shining a spotlight on the power of affordable, accessible spay/neuter to save the lives of companion animals, community (feral and stray) cats and street dogs who might otherwise be put down in shelters or killed on the street.
